# IT-AI compared with RMM and remote-access tools

> IT-AI next to TeamViewer, RustDesk, NinjaOne, Tactical RMM, MeshCentral, Action1, Level, Atera and Breeze: deployment, licence, AI access, gaps.

Canonical page: https://glick.run/it-ai/compare.html

IT-AI is a self-hosted RMM built to be operated by your AI. Here is how it sits next to the cloud RMMs, the self-hosted tools and the remote-access products people compare it with. Competitor facts are from each vendor's own pages or the source named under the table, as accessed on **21 October 2026**, and prices change. Corrections are welcome through the [contact page](https://glick.run/contact.html).

## Feature table

| Product | Where it runs | Licence | Published pricing | AI and agent access | Where it is stronger than IT-AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **IT-AI** | Self-hosted hub; agent on Windows, macOS, Linux | Agent, MCP server, CLI: MIT. Hub: Elastic License 2.0 | Free to self-host; hosted plan coming, no prices yet | 32-tool MCP server and `itai` CLI on your own hub; built-in assistant whose fixes wait for Apply; read-only tokens | (this is us) |
| **NinjaOne** | Vendor cloud (SaaS), plus a separate FedRAMP instance | Proprietary | Per endpoint per month: "as low as $1.50" at 10,000 endpoints, $3.75 at 50 or fewer | Katana AI and an MCP server announced 13 Oct 2026; release stage not stated | OS and third-party patching at scale, monitoring, backup, free implementation and support |
| **Atera** | Vendor cloud (SaaS) | Proprietary | Per technician, unlimited endpoints: $129 to $209 per tech per month for MSP plans | Robin AI agent resolves Tier-1 tickets on its own; no MCP server found | PSA and ticketing built in, autonomous Tier-1 resolution |
| **Action1** | Vendor cloud (SaaS) | Proprietary | Free for the first 200 endpoints; then from $4 per endpoint per month | No first-party AI agent or MCP server found; community MCP servers exist | OS and third-party patch management, vulnerability remediation, a large free tier |
| **Level** | Vendor cloud (SaaS) | Proprietary | Free for 10 devices, then $2 per device per month | `lvl` CLI and a skill for coding agents, bring your own AI; install marked "Coming Soon"; no MCP mentioned | Hosted, every feature included, month-to-month billing |
| **Tactical RMM** | Self-hosted | Custom "Tactical RMM License 1.0", which says it is not an open-source licence | Free to self-host; signed agents, SSO and reporting need a sponsorship from about $55 per month | No built-in AI operator | Mature open RMM; its community-scripts library is the one IT-AI's `search_scripts` uses |
| **MeshCentral** | Self-hosted | Apache-2.0 | Free, no paid tier | No built-in AI operator | Mature remote access and device oversight under a permissive licence |
| **Breeze** | Self-hosted, or Breeze Cloud (public beta) | AGPL-3.0, with an `ee/` directory under a commercial licence | Free to self-host with no device limit | AI operator on the Claude Agent SDK; MCP server with OAuth 2.1; risk tiers where high-risk actions need approval and critical ones are blocked (approval UI on its roadmap) | PSA, patching with rings and maintenance windows, RBAC on Postgres row-level security, S3 audit archive |
| **TeamViewer** | Vendor cloud | Proprietary | TeamViewer ONE Premium $112.90 per month for 15 users (Capterra) | MCP interface for Claude and Copilot, with a paid licence that includes WebAPI; TeamViewer Intelligence AI add-on | Native mobile apps and enterprise tooling |
| **RustDesk** | Self-hosted server | AGPL-3.0 | Open-source build free; Server Pro from $11.88 per month billed annually | No built-in AI operator | Mature cross-platform remote desktop with mobile clients; 126,000+ GitHub stars |

## Where IT-AI is weaker

- **No patch rollout policies.** IT-AI lists pending updates and can apply them all, but has no rings, maintenance windows or per-patch approvals. NinjaOne, Action1 and Breeze do.
- **No PSA, ticketing, backup or mobile clients.** Atera and Breeze include PSA; NinjaOne sells backup; TeamViewer and RustDesk have mobile apps.
- **Agent binaries are not OS code-signed.** Releases are checksummed, ed25519-signed and Sigstore-attested, but not Apple-notarized or Authenticode-signed. Tactical RMM offers signed agents to sponsors.
- **Young and small.** No customer logos, no certifications, no third-party security review published.

## Where IT-AI fits

- **The AI is the primary interface.** The MCP server and CLI are first-class, not an add-on to a GUI, and an AI's reach is bounded by the token you mint and the deny-list on your hub.
- **No vendor holds the keys.** The hub, its audit log and the AI key are on your server. The cloud RMMs' AI and MCP features run in the vendor's cloud.
- **Open agent.** The code that runs as root on your devices is MIT and auditable, with build provenance for every release.
- **Edge devices behind CGNAT.** Devices dial out, and a Linux device can be a WireGuard VPN exit through the hub's relay.
